Student Welfare - Pastoral Care
What is Pastoral Care?
Pastoral care is a term used to describe the systems that are in place to ensure that students’ emotional and physical welfare needs are catered for. It is wide ranging in nature as all students are individuals and will have differing needs. Where there are areas of concern the pastoral team will work with students and parents to overcome these. By actively working with students on their social and emotional development, the ability to achieve academic success will be enhanced, encouraging life-long learning and good study skills. Pastoral care encourages students to be good role models, have mutual respect, be consistent and fair and to have high expectations of themselves and others in the community.
Who is Responsible for Pastoral Care at ICS?
- The Deputy Head of Secondary, currently Mr Carlo Murphy
- Key Stage Coordinators
- Form Tutors
- All staff
We work together as a team to look after your children’s welfare. Typically pastoral care covers:
- Moving between Primary and Secondary
- Moving up the Key Stages
- Settling in new ICS Students (and families)
- Subject guidance
- Career guidance
- Preparation for adult life
Weekly assemblies are held which bring together all students and celebrate achievements. Each form group leads one assembly a year which will cover a topic of significance either at school, or in the local or extended global community. Topics of global importance will be researched and presented by form groups, thereby giving all students a wider perspective of life.
