Information Technology (ICT)

The ICT Department aims to provide our students with a wide ranging and balanced ICT experience focused on the ICT National Curriculum. This entitlement supports the students in gaining ICT knowledge, skills and understanding required for examination success and life after school.

These statements describe how ICT is used in our school:

  • ICT is a valued environment in our school; it assists students in developing a positive self-image and promotes the public image of the whole school.
  • ICT has the flexibility to meet the individual needs and abilities of each student.
  • ICT should seek to promote skills in decision making and the establishment of control.
  • ICT should empower its users.
  • ICT gives students immediate access to richer source materials.
  • ICT can present information in new ways which help students to understand, assimilate and use it more readily.
  • ICT can motivate and enthuse pupils - IT should be fun.
  • ICT should help children to focus and concentrate.

The school currently has two ICT suites one each for the primary and secondary schools. Additionally from September 2011 a further twenty laptops will be available. This will further advance cross curricular activities.

Every computer is capable of supporting a number of Learning Packages.  These can allow the learners to progress at their own pace and their own level.

Key Stage 4 IGCSE : Information and Communication Technology (0417)

The Information Communication Technology syllabus combines theoretical and practical studies focusing on the ability to use common software applications, including word processors, spreadsheets, databases, interactive presentation software, e-mail, web browsers and website design. Students will develop a greater awareness of how applications are used in the workplace, and consider the impact of new technologies on methods of working and on social, economic, ethical and moral issues. The skills learnt will be useful to them in their work across the curriculum, and will prepare them for future employment. Assessment of the practical tests is hardware and software independent. Any hardware platform, operating system, and applications packages can be used, providing that students have the opportunity to demonstrate the full range of skills in the syllabus.
