Geography

KS3

The Geography department follows the England and Wales National Curriculum structure, the course content is adapted to allow students use their own wealth of international experience. The students cover a range of topics covering both physical and human geography. Alongside the classroom teaching it is important that students experience practical fieldwork. There are opportunities in all students in KS3 to get out of the classroom and investigate their local environment.

Assessment in KS3 is based not only on class notes and exams, but also regular levelled assessments.  These assessments will allow students, staff and parents to keep a track of their performance based on the National Curriculum levels.

KS4

Students will follow the Edexcel IGCSE Geography course. This course is structured to give the students a broad understanding of some of the current issues affecting the world and its population.  Like the KS3 curriculum the IGCSE allows the students to use their own knowledge of the world as well as the information they gather from their teachers.  The course will develop their analytical and enquiry skills in addition to increasing their awareness and understanding of the world around them.

Assessment at IGCSE is examination based, and students will be prepared for this through continuous use of past exam questions.  There is not a discrete coursework element to the Edexcel IGCSE course, but students will be examined on their practical geographical knowledge in their written exam.  Fieldwork experience will happen both within school and the local area.

KS5

Year 12 and 13 students who study Geography will follow the Edexcel syllabus.  This course builds on students IGCSE studies and continues to develop their enquiry skills.  The course covers a variety of human and physical geographical topics, linking traditional theory with real life application.

The course is divided between the AS and A2 courses, students must complete the AS modules before undertaking A2 qualification.
