Examinations

Examination Boards

The ICS delivers a curriculum which concludes with external exams provided by two well established UK examination boards: Edexcel and Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).

Exam Levels

Students can study to various levels from GCSE and IGCSE through to Advance Subsidary (AS) and a full A-Level with A2. These exams are recognised by most universities and colleges throughout the world and all UK universities and colleges. Indeed, Cambridge International is the largest provider of such qualifications on an international basis.

When do examinations take place?

GCSEs (General Certificate of Education) and IGCSEs (International General Certificate of Education) are normally taken at the end of Year 11 but some early entries have been allowed in Year 10 and Year 9 in certain circumstances. AS and A2 exams are usually taken at the end of Years 12 and 13 respectfully. Some Edexcel courses allow a modular approach where some of the testing is carried out in January.

Strict Criteria

Both the awarding bodies have strict criteria under which the exams must be conducted. It is most important that students and parents are aware of this and there are links to the relevant instructions elsewhere in this section.

SAT Exams

The school also administers UK SATs exams provided by the QCDA authority in England at Key Stages 1, 2 and 3.
