Primary Student Council
The Primary Student Council is, in essence, the voice of the Primary ICS students. Each class, from Year 3 to Year 6, elects two representatives at the beginning of each year to speak on their behalf at Student Council meetings. There are separate meetings for Primary and Secondary, although occasionally the two student councils work together when there is a greater need, such as the January 2010 Haiti appeal, in which we raised 2,500 JD together as a whole school.
Fundraising Activities
The Primary Student Council organises many fundraising activities, from non-uniform days and bake sales to Valentine grams and school parties. This money is then used to provide assistance to either local charities or directly to local Jordan families who are in need.
Over the past few years, the Primary Student Council has raised thousands of dinars and has used the money in various ways, such as:
- Providing gas heaters to a refugee camp in Eastern Jordan
- Purchasing a large number of blankets for a local orphanage
- Supplying some much-needed kitchen appliances to the National Association for the Mentally Handicapped
- Funding a range of surgery tools for the Humane Center for Animal Welfare
- Purchasing 50 JD food baskets to families in need in the Rusaifah/Zarqa area
- Funding the operations of 3 children through the organisation, Operation Smile
- Purchasing school stationery for a local school in Na’our
At ICS, we aim to teach our children the importance of caring and supporting people who are less fortunate than ourselves, and based on the response we consistently receive through our student council initiatives, this message appears to reach the children as they are more than willing to support us as we support others in our community.
