Behaviour

ICS has been welcoming primary students since 1954 and has a well deserved reputation for being a caring, friendly, happy school where students, from over 50 different nationalities, are helped to settle quickly and become part of the ICS community. Our students are great ambassadors for the school and fabulous role models for each other. Their personal development, well being and behaviour was described as ‘outstanding’ in our 2006 inspection by a UK inspection team.

We believe in the education of the whole child within a safe, caring and positive environment. We aim to create a community where good behaviour is encouraged through mutual respect, praise and reward. All members of the school community are appreciated and valued as individuals and are always given the opportunity to succeed. We believe that for effective teaching and learning to take place, it is essential that good behaviour is present.

At the ICS we create a caring learning environment by:

  • Showing respect for staff and pupils.
  • Promoting self-discipline and self-esteem.
  • Being fair and consistent in our approach and response to both positive and negative behaviour, whilst acknowledging that all children are different and sometimes require different methods of discipline.
  • Celebrating success through the use of praise, house points and certificates presented in weekly assemblies as a way of publicly recognising all those who have worked well, shown due consideration for others and generally deserved praise.
  • Encouraging positive relationships with parents, keeping them informed about the academic and social progress of their child.

Each of our classes are encouraged to discuss and negotiate their own class rules in a way that is clear and easily understood for their age and maturity. Positive behaviour strategies are discussed and modelled in our regular PSHCE lessons and also through activities such as circle time and assemblies.

Standards

Year 6 2010 SAT’s Results
At ICS our Year 6 students take the UK National Curriculum SAT’s in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. We are able to use this information to compare pupil progress at ICS with other schools in the UK.

High expectations and a dedicated primary staff have succeeded in achieving high standards in each of these core subjects. The number of children achieving level 5 in all subjects is impressive and something the whole school is proud of. This data demonstrates that we compare very favourably with UK schools.
