How to apply
A warm welcome to you, and thank you for your interest in the International Community School, Amman. We hope that you may wish to register your son or your daughter for entry to the school, and we will do our best to make that process simple and efficient for you.
Admissions Policy
General statement
We welcome applications for boys and girls of all school ages. The ICS seeks to help each pupil according to his or her needs, and will not discriminate against any applicant on the grounds of nationality, religious persuasion or disability. Please note however that parents of any applicant under the age of 16, who holds only Jordanian nationality, must seek authorisation from the Jordanian Ministry of Education.
The school must operate within proper educational limits, and must aim to provide a positive yield for all pupils and parents. We reserve the right to refuse entry:
- If the year group appropriate to the applicant is already full.
- If in our professional judgment, the applicant is not suited to the programme which the school offers.
- If in our professional judgment, the applicant needs a level of resources and individual support which would deprive other pupils in the school.
Admissions Process
Primary School Applicants
Assessment will not normally be required before admission. However, we ask parents to bring copies of any previous school reports, and to highlight any special ability or learning difficulty encountered in school so far.
Secondary School Applicants
An assessment in English, Mathematics, plus Science for older pupils will normally be required for any pupil applying for years 7-11 (ages 11-16). Applicants for AS and A-level courses may choose from a range of subjects, and may be asked to take a relevant assessment paper in order that they may demonstrate a sound grounding in their preferred options.
It is not necessary for assessments to be taken at the ICS. If a visit is inconvenient or impractical, papers can be sent to the applicant’s current school.
In all cases, the current school will be asked to send to the ICS a report on the applicant.
Application procedure
The application process is in two stages: documents can be found in the application forms section of the site.
Stage 1
Parents are invited to read the pages below on the website, or attached in paper copy, regarding term dates, school fees and payment arrangements. We invite you then to complete registration form R 1.
Stage 2
If a place is offered and accepted, a registration fee of JD 1500 will be required. Parents will receive information on uniform, routines, bus transport and activities. We will also ask that they fill in a medical form, detailing the pupil’s vaccinations and reporting any illnesses, allergies or injuries. This information will be treated with sensitivity; however, please note that no pupil can be admitted unless the school has received the completed medical form.
I hope that you have found this information clear and brief, and that you will decide in the next days or weeks to pursue your interest in the ICS. I look forward to meeting you in the near future; all good wishes to you and to your family meanwhile.
