Year 9 Diving Trip

A group of seven students from Year 9 have completed a PADI Junior Open Water course at a Dive School in Aqaba. They travelled down to the Dive Village near Tala Bay on Sunday 14th June and on the following Friday all of them were enjoying their first guided dives as qualified divers.

The PADI course includes the study of theory involved with diving: students had all completed practice quizzes on this before the course, and simply had to spend part of a day on study, before transferring to the centre’s pool to try out SCUBA equipment for the first time and practice various standard techniques. Also, after an afternoon spent snorkelling over the coral, students watched a DVD of Finding Nemo with renewed interest!

The last part of the course consisted of a series of practical exercises in the sea, such as removing and replacing equipment, and practicing emergency procedures. Once these were satisfactorily completed the course was complete.

It was a trip that everyone enjoyed, including the accompanying staff and the instructors. On the last day, after handing out certificates, all the new divers were ceremonially thrown into the centre’s pool!
