Year 5 Assembly

5W were responsible for the assembly this week. As it is Science week in school we decided that the topics we were going to cover were Volcanoes and Rocks. The children were all dressed in their lab coats and safety goggles.
We firstly had our mad professors discussing the Earth and the materials it is made from before moving onto Volcanoes. The children described how the Earth is made up of 3 layers and that through volcanoes; lava is created.

We tried to use everyday items such as bread to describe the crust of the earth and perhaps more excitingly, chocolate as the rocks.
The children then sang a song about Volcanoes and eruptions before watching a demonstration of an erupting volcano.

Afterwards in class, the children had to identify different types of rock linked to chocolate.

Meteorite : solid all the way through
(DAIRY MILK)
Sedimentary: Layers (LION BAR)
Igneous: Small gas bubbles with larger clumps of rock. (BROWNIE)
Metamorphic: different rocks pushed together (MIXED MILK, DARK and WHITE chocolate)

We enjoyed our assembly and are looking forward to seeing the other class assemblies throughout the year. Well Done 5W.
A special thank you must also go to Mr. O’Neill, Mrs Jichi, Ms Hayat, Mr Ayman and the Science department. Without all of you, our children would not have gained as much as they did from their learning.
