Imagine: running in a team of 10, non-stop, for 18 hours and 46 minutes, covering a distance of 242 km! Doesn’t appeal to you right? Well, fortunately it did appeal to the 10 ICS students who did just that this, making EVERYONE involved in the race (including non-ICS affiliated runners and spectators) extremely proud and even a bit envious of the energy our students, who somehow managed to pull out of thin air to literally SPRINT the last 30 km of the race, from near the Aqaba airport, all the way to the Radisson Hotel in Tala Bay! These 10 students showed unbelievable determination and perseverance, sprinting past 4 adult teams on the streets of Aqaba (who were quite a few km’s ahead of us only an hour before). The expressions on the faces of these people were priceless, as they were giving it all they could, only to have a gust of wind fly by! This burst of speed moved us from 12th to 8th place out of the 26 competing teams: a fantastic accomplishment for the youngest and only school team involved in the race, going up against almost all adults!
A very big WELL DONE to the 10 runners of this year’s ICS team: Louis Hoyez, Alex Boyle, Melissa Chadwick, Alize Tendero, Adele McMurdo, Nadja Huepers, Alex Huepers, Faisal Al Rifai, Gilles Bogaert and Ian Polycandriotis!
We would also like to say thank you to our generous sponsors: NADER group, Pascal Hoyez, Kameel Saliba, Samer Nino and Cozmo. Special thanks must go to Walid and Amy Dihmis for the use of their van and to Mr. Al Rifai for being a third support vehicle and for using this vehicle to block the streets of Aqaba all the way to Tala Bay to enable us to continue the sprints which resulted in the ICS team overtaking 4 teams.
This extraordinary success came as a result of the continuous hard work the running team has put in over the last six months. Of course, having our wonderful supporters with us in the bus (Lily Dubar, Isabelle Hoyez and Joe Nader) was another asset, they were amazing! Their support helpedthe team stay motivated and active during the 18 hours of running. Thanks a lot for your support and help. We were very privileged to have been a part of this extraordinary team.
Well done to the ICS team but don’t sit down for too long. Keep running and get ready for the Dead Sea Altra Marathon .
